Alexandre von WartburgGuest Artist, Bassoon Born and raised in Geneva, Switzerland, Alexandre von Wartburg is an accomplished bassoonist and music educator. He holds degrees from the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève, where he specialized in Performance, Counterpoint, and Solfège, and from Western University, where he furthered his studies in Performance and Music Education. His bassoon artistry was shaped under the guidance of renowned mentors Kim Walker, Jim MacKay, Gabor Janota, and William Waterhouse. Alexandre's career in music education began with teaching Solfège at the Conservatoire Populaire de Musique de Genève. Today, he continues to inspire young musicians as an Instrumental Music and Guitar instructor at École secondaire Mgr Bruyère in London, Ontario. Since 2012, he has also been sharing his expertise as a bassoon instructor at Western University. As a seasoned orchestra and chamber musician, Alexandre has graced stages across Canada, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Macau, Poland, and Switzerland. His performances are marked by a deep connection to the music and a commitment to excellence. In the inaugural concert of its 20th-anniversary season, the Stratford Symphony Orchestra proudly presents a program built around "Beethoven's 5th", just as they did in their first ever season. Under the baton of conductor William Rowson, this extraordinary evening will open with Stravinsky's vibrant Pulcinella Suite, followed by Weber's captivating Concerto for Bassoon in F, Op. 75, which will showcase von Wartburg's exceptional talent.
