Rose Soenen, Principal Harp

Surrounded by the music of her three older sisters and three younger brothers from an early age, Rose Soenen began learning piano at age five and switched to viola at ten, though it didn’t suit her. At 12, inspired by her sister’s harp playing and Loreena McKennitt’s recordings, she chose the harp and fell in love with the instrument.

Rose won a Toronto Harp Society Scholarship and the Harp Provincials in 2011, as well as the Wilfrid Laurier Concerto Competition in 2015. She earned a Bachelor of Music in harp performance in 2016 and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at the University of Toronto under Judy Loman.

Teaching harp, piano, and voice since 2012, Rose has also performed as a soloist since 2007. She is a member of "The Soenen Sisters" and the harp duo "Duo Niro." Since 2017, she has been principal harpist with the Stratford Symphony Orchestra.

In her free time, Rose enjoys running, weightlifting, reading, and painting. Born in Edmonton, she now lives in Toronto.
